Friendly Fill-ins: Week 90

We are happy you are here for another week of friendly sharing! As always, you can find the fill-ins here and at each Thursday. On Fridays, we post the link for sharing. You are welcome to answer in the comments, but if you link up, more people can share.

Well, I obviously made the move to WordPress. There is no going back; we are happy here. Aside from a couple of glitches, the move has been very good. If you are here for the Friendly Fill-Ins, thre is one glitch that you surely have noticed: the Linky. It is different because WordPress does not allow JavaScript for personal blogs. The sites with business plans do have it, though.

I found this out on Sunday night, as I was making sure that Sparks would go live on time. I worked for literally hours to get the Linky to work, but it was not to be. I consulted with many experts from WordPress, the Linky, and fellow bloggers. Finally, I found a WordPress tech on Chat Support. She informed me that they do not have JavaScript for personal blogs. We are looking into more attractive options for the Friendly Fill-Ins and Sparks, and we are open to suggestions.

I am having a lot of problems commenting on Blogger. Sometimes, I can comment using my Blogger profile. But, not always…and, it still freezes or hesitates for what seems like an eternity. Other times, if I try my WordPress ID/Open ID, it says I am not verified. I am not sure what they want. My blog is verified with Google. If I do not comment, I am still reading. Blogspot won’t let me have my say, though. If you have answers, please share them with me.

Here are my completed fill-ins. I look forward to reading all of yours!

1. The flu shot should only be given if suggested by one’s own doctor. This is something that should be decided by a trusted health care professional based on your personal health history and needs.

flu-shot-cat- (2)

2. I think everyone should take a few moments to meditate daily. I believe that we all need time to listen to our spirit. We need to really hear that voice within us. It is that voice who reminds us who we really are and guides us on life’s journey.

3. I always keep paper and pen next to the bed, because I wake up often during the night. Apparently, as I sleep, my heart and soul team up with my mind. They give me pieces of poems and stories. Sometimes they give me questions or answers. I try to capture these things as they are given to me.

4. I never sleep through the night, because I don’t think I am wired that way. I am a very light sleeper. I have always had a special relationship with the night. I still do, too.

  1. Blogger is really being a pain, isn’t it? I would move my original PS Annie! to WP, but the file is too big to export. I haven’t had much luck in the past with getting my followers to follow me from Blogger to WordPress, so I guess I will just be fighting it out in regards to PS Annie! I have already redirected the readers of Reviews by David and Suzanne to our WP blog McClendon Villa’s Reviews. I’m only going to fight their coding nightmares on one blog, otherwise I’ll just end up giving up completely. I am glad that WP is working out for you. I have problems with it sometimes, but nothing like what I have had with Blogger over the years! Not being able to do the linky and have it show up like it does on Blogger is a bit disconcerting at first, but so long as it works, that is what matters.

The kitty pics are cute, as usual. I especially like the nighttime kitty on the roof scene. So pretty.

    Have a blessed weekend.

      • Thank you for this suggestion, Annie. I will look into it. Another concern I have is that the followers there on Blogger won’t follow over here on WordPress. That has been the case for me with other blog moves. I don’t know what to do to encourage them to follow me over here. 98 followers isn’t a great deal in the scheme of things compared to other bloggers, but it is a great deal to me. Do you have any suggestions for how to encourage them to make the move?
        Have a blessed weekend.

  2. Obviously, I don’t sleep through the night, either. In fact, I tend to go to bed at a decent time, then wake up inspired by a thought, so I get up and write it down… sometimes a note to myself, sometimes I work on whatever project I have going. Then, around 3 .am., I head back to bed for a couple more hours of sleep.
Hope you have a great day!

  3. It’s because i cannot use the Javascript that i am posting on Blogger and the same on WordPress. Please feel free to read and comment on either site (although i cannot for the life of me figure out how to set comments to not need approval on WordPress). Blogger posts comments, it just takes about 20 seconds after you hit publish, i timed it and it seems a lot longer than it really is.

You are right about the flu shot not being for everyone, but meditation can only do a body (and mind and spirit) good.

It’s great that you keep your note pad near at night, you never know when inspiration will strike. For me it’s often when i’m on my knees scrubbing a floor.

  4. So sorry you’ve been having issues here in your new WordPress home! I have found the people at WP and the chat rooms to be super helpful….so I hope anything you are experiencing will be fixed ASAP! The blogger commenting issues has been one that a lot of us have talked about – the blogger blogs that have the embedded comment form rather than the “pop up” comment form are the ones most are having problems with. It can be frustrating but I also know of one friend who has problems commenting on our WP blog from time to time so I think these little “issues” invade all social media venues. I love your fill-ins today – I meditate often during the day but find the BEST time (for me) is at night when all is calm and quiet…..I just reflect on the day and re-center myself to prepare for the next…………… Happy Friday!

  6. I am with you on Fill-in 2 and 4. I am happy you are happy at WordPress. I had a blog on Blogger for some years and finally took a deep breath and moved to WP. I am happy I did. It is just easier for me to get around. Although the editor gives me a cranky fairly often… I still use the old editor… 🙂

Annie, again I find we are kindred spirits – those fill-ins could have been mine (if I had taken them on)!!!

As of the past two days, the comments issue has resolved – at least here in the UK; it is likely to be a phased roll-through, but should certainly be complete by now, so do keep trying. However, if I am to understand it correctly, you are saying you can’t comment AT ALL, never mind the delay issue of late? As other blogpals from WP are commenting happily at my place, via their Blogger ID, it must be something pertaining only to your own profile. The first action would be to double check everything at – just in case. Did you delete the old blog yet? Possibility something went awry with that. If, after checking and/or resetting stuff, you still can’t comment, what I might be inclined to suggest is that you delete your Blogger/Google profile altogether and set a new one.

I have always had some difficulty getting recognised here at WP unless the bloggers have authorised me somewhere in that system. What happened this week, though, with your blog, was WP took me through and signed me up!!! that is why my profile picture is now showing; I have a profile in this system and am about to find out if that means easier commenting at WP blogs. I notice at top of the page it also means I could follow WP blogs and be able to go to ‘reader’. As I have all the blogs I follow integrated into my Blogger dashboard, I probs won’t use that. For now at least.

It’s a great conundrum, this technical world!!! Huggies, YAM xx

    • Yes, I have checked Blogger settings. In fact, that was how I found out that my Google+ profile is gone. It did not even upset me. I figure those who want to find me and follow me, will. I am just glad to be settling into WP. It is a lot less stressful! Hugs!

  8. Annie,

Concerning this problem you mentioned >> WordPress ID/Open ID, it says I am not verified. I asked Google and learned that if you replace “https” with “http” that this is the culprit. Basically, it has to do with Blogger moving to an SSL and one of WP’s servers has yet to make that move. I accidentally discovered this for myself but didn’t know the reason until now. I’ll be curious to learn if this resolves your issues. Please let me know! 😉

I have never gotten a flu shot. Supposedly, it’s good for those at risk but I have to question the need because CDC never nails the flu strain anyhow, so how does getting the shot help? I think mediation is a good idea but I’ve never been one to sit quietly for any period of time. My brain just floats off elsewhere but I do talk to God throughout the day frequently when something comes to mind. This arrangement makes me feel like He’s right there with me all the time, instead of slot cut out in my day. Of course, with the kids are out of the house, it’s quiet all day…unless I’m playing mewsic which makes talking with God purrfect. 🙂 Thanks for hosting the Friday fun, my friend. Have a good weekend!!

  9. Your new home at WordPress looks fantastic! I’ve been thinking of switching, but I just don’t have time to deal with the little issues that will undoubtedly come up. So for now I am getting along with Blogger. Some of the earlier problems I was having with formatting posts seem to have resolved. I never sleep through the night either, but it’s only because I have to get up to use the bathroom! You have also reminded me that I should amend my answer about the flu shot to add a note for people who are advised not to get it. Thank you! 🙂

  10. I’m so happy that you’re at WP now! I agree with you about the flu shots. We didn’t get one this year. In fact, I don’t think I’ve had one since I retired! I agree with you on the meditation. I haven’t mastered it yet but believe it to be so helpful. I love the pictures you’ve put with your fill-ins! I, too, struggle with sleeping through the night. I have such a difficult time shutting down my thoughts when I go to bed. And then I often wake up several times. Very frustrating! Anyway, wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead! Hugs 🤗

  11. Why on earth do they restrict JavaScript usage from private bloggers? ~sigh~ I agree with your number one answer whole heartedly. Still, I didn’t get flu shots for many years despite having asthma. I’ve relented with age, but sometimes wonder if it’s a scam to calm the masses and earn more money. But then again, this year they flat-out admitted its ineffectiveness, so I suppose my paranoia is just that in this case. As for the slow comments, I just go to another tab while waiting. But don’t be like me and have so much open that it crashes the computer. Ha! ~hugs~ Be well!

  13. I love your answers. Especially the meditation one. We all need to do that. Clear the mind.

I sleep like a log. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not, but I wake up ready to take on the world.

Aw on the kitty. That’s one fast typist.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday. Big hug. ♥

  14. Good Morning! I love your answers for this week’s fill-ins and I love your kitty illustrations too! One can never have to many cats! 🙂 Right now my six are all circled around me as I write. If only I could teach them to do housework! 🙂

I agree with you about flu shots, they are not for everyone, and they are not the solution for all the flu strains going around. As with so many immunizations now, there are pros and cons and things to be considered.

Meditation is wonderful and would help so much with the stress and conflict in lives and in the world. We need to take that time to recenter ourselves and just listen!

I use my phone notes for those late night inspirations, but mine tend to run more along the line of “Oh, Lord… I forget to…” so I will remember in the morning! 🙂

I sleep very soundly at night, at least eight hours. If I wake up for a potty trip, I can fall right back to sleep. That’s a real blessing. Papa Bear is a light sleeper and once awakened he will toss and turn the rest of the night. I envy people who can function well on a few hours sleep, I wish I could!

Blogger never had problems to this degree before Google took it over. One has to wonder if there is an intent to exclude non-Google/Blogger blog users. Google has been known to embrace exclusivity. It sure is making it difficult to comment on Blogger, and that makes me sad. I am glad I finally made the move, I will be moving the Ten Things of Thankful blog to Word Press in the near future as well.

Have a great weekend coming up! ❤

    • Josie,
One can have too many cats. As with everything, there are limits. I think one can never LOVE too many cats. That is much better for all involved. As for housework, cats make it…bless their hearts. ❤

I agree. We need to "just listen" to our inner spirit, to our conscience, and to others. People have lost the natural ability to listen.

I leave my phone next to my paper, in case Bill calls! I am pretty traditional about paper and pen.

      Enjoy your weekend!

  15. I think your blog looks wonderful! I have very little skill with technology, so even the thought of packing up shop and moving sites makes me cringe. I really enjoyed the fill-ins this week. I agree 100% on #2. As for #3, I am just like you, and I always have pen and paper handy. I have some by my bed, as well as in my purse and in my car. Though it might have been different when I was a child, as an adult, bedtime has never been a problem for me. I am one of those who falls asleep easily. I am a bit of a light sleeper, though, so I do wake up at least once most nights, especially if a furbaby crawls over me or wants cuddles, which I don’t mind one bit. Have a beautiful day!

  16. I love your fill-ins and the kitty pics. Your blog has already taken on your personality and that’s what matters. There are many themes to choose from to compliment your work. Your theme selection looks very nice and cozy.

  17. Excellent fill-ions, as always. Good idea to check with a Dr. before getting the flu shot , especially for older people and those with chronic illnesses. I should sleep with a pen and pad near the bed too. I tend to have the oddest dreams that would make great sci-fi stories. The last one had Mulder and Scully from the X-Files in it 🙂 We will find another link service that works for wordpress. Have a great weekend! XO

  18. Concats on the move. So WP is already giving you fits. Perhaps having self hosted would be better. I actually have more trouble getting comments to go through on WP than Blogger and many blogs take forever to load. I hope this isn’t going to be one of them. TW is a light sleeper. She’s trying jotting notes at night but can never remember why she wrote them. BTW, is there a way you can make the Linky tool so it sends me back to the blog? That’s been a problem since I started linking up.

    • Thanks! I hope you have no problem with the blog. I don’t have a lot things to load. I try to keep it simple and easy. Unfortunately, I have no control over the linky. However, at the bottom left, it says click here to go back to the blog. It worked for me. We are going to be changing, though.

  19. I wish I’d looked closer when I chose Blogger over WordPress!
I got my last flu shot 12 years ago – when I got the flu pretty bad for a few days afterward. And up until this year, I never got it again. I heard this season, it’s only been 10% effective – the strain we had wasn’t covered by the vaccine.
My nighttime habits are much like yours … I always have a pen and paper nearby. No matter how hard I try … I just don’t remember my ideas the next day otherwise. I’m also more a night person. If I got to bed before midnight … I will lay there bored – no matter how tired I was to begin with!

  20. So many cute kitty GIFS today. Loving the one furiously typing on the keyboard. – Well I never have had a flu shot (don’t want one either), I too keep a pen & paper handy incase I think of something before I fall asleep at night.

  21. I use WP on a self-hosted site and the one issue I have is that even though I have moderation set to automatically approve someone’s comments after I moderate their first comment, a couple readers’ comments (you’re one) get stuck in moderation. I cannot figure it out for the life of me!

Hopefully you’ll find a linky solution that you like.

I’m on board with your flu shot comment. The statistics for serious influenza illness do not support the flu vaccine frenzy that has been going on the last few years. The only reason I can think of why it’s being so heavily recommended for the general population is that it’s easier than trying to explain which groups would most benefit from the vaccine. I prefer the Canadian recommendations that target at-risk groups.

  22. Great answers Annie, especially the one about meditating daily. I think it’s so important for us all to take even just a few minutes daily to just stop and breathe, taking time to restore our souls. Have a really lovely week and hope all the glitches sort themselves out.

  23. I will try to find a workaround to comment on your blog. I have all kinds of hocus pokes I am doing to occasionally get through on WP blogs. I have to go as Rambling1on…never as Katie Isabella, as WP won’t take my comments. I do have a way around it in two instances.

  24. I don’t sleep through the nights on a regular basis either but my thought is that sleeping 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (or there-abouts) is kind of a corporate/industrial mode of living. Now that I am retired and don’t have to punch a clock, I listen to my body. If it tells me it needs to sleep at two in the afternoon, then I get undressed, slip into bed and sleep. If it nudges me awake at 3 AM, suggesting a cup of tea and a little bit of reading, drawing or writing, then that’s what I do. I kind of follow a natural inner clock.

p.s. I added an email follow link to my blog. Thanks for the idea!
