Chloe Jo’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

From her very first days of life, Chloe Jo has had serious health issues. She had respiratory problems as early as two days old. It was necessary for me to do chest thumps on her to keep her lungs clear. Her lungs and sinuses suffered serious infection and permanent scarring.

All of her life, unusual health issues have plagued her. She has consistently fought kidney issues, including stones. Her kidneys are too small, while her bladder is oddly shaped. Gastrointestinal issues have also been a battle for Chloe Jo. Digestion and constipation have wreaked havoc on her.

When she is stabilized, Chloe Jo feels good and is happy. When she becomes restless and irritable, we know something is wrong. Often, it is not clear-cut. Sometimes, it takes a little detective work. But, it is all about making Chloe Jo happy!

Recently, we noted that Chloe Jo was restless, grouchy, and not her usual sunny self. Then, she began having some abdominal pain. We knew the intestinal issues were flaring up. It seemed this situation was worsening, though.

For the past two days, Chloe Jo has been in the hospital.  A complete work-up and more in-depth studies were done. In an effort to find what is causing her such distress, she was thoroughly examined. The results are not good. In fact, these results break our hearts. Chloe Jo has been diagnosed with Gastrointestinal Lymphoma. She will begin chemotherapy today, but she will be allowed to come home. The prognosis will be determined by her response to chemotherapy.

I cannot tell you how this has shaken us. Chloe Jo is the BabyCat. Her illness as a newborn caused her to remain emotionally preserved as a kitten. She loves being held, on her back, in the crook of your left arm. She will stay like that as she watches TV or listens to music. Music calms and soothes her, especially if it is Dad playing guitar.

Please offer up a prayer for Chloe Jo. And, thank you for your patience. This has taken an obvious toll on my visiting for the past couple of weeks. I will be working on that, as I also get ready for the A-Z Challenge. Positive distractions can be a good and healthy thing. We will make sure to keep Chloe Jo entertained, too.

We thank you for your prayers and support, and Chloe Jo thanks you, too. Hugs.

  2. Dear Annie, this is such heartbreaking news. I want you to know that you and Chloe Jo have been prayed for every evening in my rosary during Lent. I pray for healing. This rosary has been recited on my knees and not in bed like I used to recite it. Don’t worry about my blog. You have your hands full.
    Love and prayers, Hugs, Julia

  4. When it rains, it pours! Between Clyde and Chloe Jo … there’s plenty of devastation to go around. Doesn’t seem fair at all. I’m so sorry you have to go through it.
I know so little about your cats since you write about so many different things!

  6. We’re sorry to hear this. Sending lots of purrs to Chloe Jo. What kind of GI cancer does she have? Ernie has GI small cell lymphoma and has been on chemo for the past few months. Doing well. If you want to email us, we can give you more info.

  8. Oh no. I am so sorry. I am praying for your sweet kitty and for you as you take care of her. It is so hard when our babies are not feeling well but if there is anyone who can help her feel better it has to be you. Take care of her and of yourself at the same time. We will all be right here when you can come back. Hugs.

  9. Oh dear Annie…….I am so behind on comments and am just reading this sad news this morning. So sorry……I know how awful this diagnosis is for sweet Chloe Jo and her loving Mom and Dad. If we could “take it away” we certainly would. One thing I DO know is that treatments are so much better and effective these days so we will focus our energy on comfort and pain-free treatments for sweet Chloe Jo and know you will keep her as happy as possible. She knows LOVE and that’s the best medicine of all. We are part of her “prayer team” as of this very second.

Love and Hugs, Pam and Teddy too

  11. Dear Annie, I cannot believe I missed this. Please accept my apologies. You probably think I am cold hearted for not responding to this post. For some reason I am no longer getting e-mail notifications when you post. I try to check everyday but somehow missed this. My heart breaks for you, Bill and Chloe Jo that you are facing this. Chloe Jo is in my prayers every single day, along with you and Maggie and so many others. I will add extra prayers that chemo has some positive results and does not cause your baby girl too much distress. I love you dearly and when you are in pain, I am as well. Sending lots and lots of extra prayers. XOXO, Janet
