A-Z: Mirror

The mirror will not hold lies.
The truths are there, in her face.
A map of lines etched by time and sorrow,
it shows not where she is going,
but where she has been.
The mirror cannot reflect what is in her heart,
hidden in yesterday’s shadows.
She remains guarded, ready to withdraw,
to fold within herself, to survive.
She knows that the lines in her face are nothing
compared to the breaks in her heart.
Tears follow the lines on her face,
channels carrying sorrow away from her heart.
She closes her eyes in silent resignation.
Having nothing left to give, she gives up.

~McGuffy Ann Morris

With age, I learned that tears release many emotions. But, I also have come to realize that tears can cleanse our spirits.

  1. I feel this myself…..We do carry much of our thoughts and feelings inside but reflected outside in our faces. I used to think the expression of “I can see it in your face” was silly but I know how after all these years that it’s true. You can read all the sadness/happness/frustration/hope in a face…..I see it in mine….and I see it in others. But I don’t think I will ever give up.

It has been proven that the tears of sadness, frustration, anger, joy and those of catharsis all have different levels of salt – and temperature! This speaks to tears serving a strong physiological purpose as well as emotional. Crying is important – it is a safety mechanism and a healing balm. Much better out than in! YAM xx

  3. I regularly tell people I support in my work that they should let their emotions out as otherwise they build up in your chest and make things feel so much worse. It amazes me how many people apologise if they’re crying, when they probably have every reason in the world to.
    Have a lovely day Annie.

  5. Powerful and sad. I wish those lines had come from smiling and enjoying a life in the sun rather than in the shadows. Good thing you have the Sparks to perk us up, feel some positivity and smile. I love you and pray for you daily. Give Chloe Jo some love from me. XOXO, Janet
