Sparks: 28

It is my intent to post an inspirational thought each Monday. It becomes my weekly meditation. I hope that perhaps it can feed another’s spirit as well. With that in mind and heart, I invited others to join me.

There is an obvious universal need for more positive energy. The negative energy in the world has become thick and oppressive. Social media has become a part of this dark, negative storm. But, we can change that.

I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. There is hope. Together, we can light up the entire world!

Yin and yang is the balancing act of life. The yin in life is the sorrow. I believe that these sorrows are given to us for reasons. We may never know why, but that does not matter. What matters is that we grow from them. We need to take these sore places where life has dealt us a blow and own them. They become our battle scars. We can become stronger at the broken places if we allow it. Because, yes, I believe Rumi got it right. Namaste.

God is God

Today is Sunday. We are halfway through the A-Z Blogging Challenge. So, this is an Intermission of sorts. I am taking this opportunity to share one of my favourite songs, by one of my favourite singers. Written by Steve Earle, Joan Baez sings this best. Enjoy.

A-Z: Exist

Moments are imprinted within us,
become a part of us,
through the blood of each heartbeat,
each bead of sweat, each teardrop.
Memories fade into the eternal
abyss of time, while others are
archived forever in our hearts.
The soul mirrors what is within,
sustaining us through the
inescapable wasteland
of existence.

~McGuffy Ann Morris

This poem weighed heavily on me while it was forming.  When I write, it is always from my heart. However, it is often inspired by something external, taking time to form and reveal itself. This poem still makes me feel the rawness that I felt when I wrote it. I hope it moves you, too. Exist can be found in Weeds.

Light of the World

You are the light of the world!
You are the light of the world!
But, if that light is under a bushel,
it’s lost something kind of crucial.
You’ve got to stay bright to be the light of the world.

You are the salt of the earth.
You are the salt of the earth.
But, if that salt has lost its flavor,
it ain’t got much in its favor.
You can’t have that fault and be the salt of the earth!

So let your light so shine before men;
let your light so shine.
So, that they might know some kindness again.
We all need help to feel fine.
Let’s have some wine! (Communion!)

You are the city of God.
You are the city of God.
But, if that city is on a hill,
it’s kinda’ hard to hide it well.
You’ve got to stay pretty in the city of God.

So let your light so shine before men;
let your light so shine.
So, that they might know some kindness again.
We all need help to feel fine.
Let’s have some wine! (Communion!)

You are the light of the world.
You are the light of the world.
But, the tallest candlestick
ain’t much good without a wick.
You’ve got to live right to be the light of the world.

Alleluia!

Each Monday, I post a positive quote. This becomes my weekly meditation. I hope that perhaps, it can feed another’s spirit as well.

I am a devout realist. It is not an easy world that we live in. I understand that life can be stressful. That is why I believe the only way you can change things is to face them realistically. We all can get frustrated. Sometimes, it feels like we are treading water, and not getting anywhere at all. Other times, we are overwhelmed, feeling it is one thing after another.

Those are the times that we most need to take a moment to collect ourselves. We need to stop and think. We need to just…breathe. That is how we find our center, and that is where we are able to put things into perspective.

My offering this week is a photograph that I took in Minnesota. Six Mile Lake is nestled in the Chippewa National Forest, adjacent to the Leech Lake Indian Reservation. It is a beautiful place to “breathe”.

Easter is almost here. As a Catholic, in preparation for Easter, we make personal sacrifices. The idea of sacrifice is to forgo things that are “important” to us. In giving up these things, we honour Jesus’ time of fasting and self-sacrifice.

My Lenten focus is always twofold. In addition to the tradition of withholding from myself, I also have a tradition of giving of ourselves to others. There are so many little things that we can do for others. These small deeds are usually so very appreciated by the receiver. The more you do good deeds, the easier they are to do, too. I feel it completes the meaning of Christ’s teachings.
